How we use artificial intelligence
Last updated: July 2026
AdoptItaly uses artificial intelligence tools to improve the user experience, speed up customer support, support the drafting of content and organize internal information. On this page we explain transparently where AI comes into play — and, above all, where it does not.
Editorial images and real images
Some editorial and cover images on the website (for example the homepage images) are generated or enhanced using artificial intelligence tools. These images are intended for illustrative purposes and do not represent a specific tree, farmer, plot or documentary update.
Photos published in tree pages, seasonal updates, farmer work diaries and project reports are real field photographs, uploaded by farmers or by the AdoptItaly team and, where possible, geotagged. Documentary photos are never generated with AI.
Lia, the adoption advisor
Lia is the AI-based assistant who signs the personalized updates about your tree. Her texts are generated with AI from the real photos uploaded by the farmer, and are reviewed and approved by a member of the AdoptItaly team before being sent.
Lia does not invent information: she only describes what is visible in the photos and in your adoption data. The photos accompanying her messages are always real field photographs.
Newsletters and marketing content
Some content drafts (newsletters, editorial copy) may be prepared with the support of AI tools. Every piece of content is reviewed and approved by a member of the team before publication or sending: no AI-generated content is published automatically.
Virtual assistants and chatbots
AdoptItaly does not currently use customer-facing chatbots. If we introduce an AI-based virtual assistant in the future, we will clearly disclose it from the first interaction, and contact with a human team member will always be available.
The responses of any assistant would be for informational purposes only and would not replace the Terms and Conditions, Privacy Policy, Transparency page, official reports or communications from customer support.
CO₂, ESG and environmental claims
CO₂ data shown by AdoptItaly is not generated by AI. It derives from declared methodology, agronomic data, uncertainty ranges, prudential buffers and independent checks where applicable.
AI may help explain data or draft content, but it cannot certify CO₂ credits, modify validated values or authorize climate neutrality claims. The complete rules are in our CO₂ Attribution Policy and on the Transparency page.
Important decisions
AI systems do not autonomously decide refunds, complaints, tree replacements, economic conditions, farmer approval, CO₂ data or other relevant contractual matters. In these cases, an assessment by the AdoptItaly team is always required.
Personal data
Any use of AI systems is carried out in accordance with the Privacy Policy and the GDPR. AdoptItaly limits the data shared with technology providers to the minimum necessary and relies on providers whose contractual terms exclude the use of our users’ data to train their models, unless the user gives explicit consent or another legal basis is indicated in the privacy notice.
